In a heartwarming event today, Yayasan Geomatika organized the “Majlis Penyerahan Dana Biasiswa Aspirasi dan Penghargaan,” honoring the generosity of donors and recognizing the achievements of students. The ceremony, held at Dewan Indasari UGM, served as a reminder of the foundation’s commitment to supporting educational excellence and student empowerment.

The event began with an opening prayer, followed by a welcoming speech from Prof. Datin Nazirah Mohaizi, Trustee of Yayasan Geomatika. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the significance of community contributions and how these donations have enabled the foundation to uplift students in need.

A major highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of a donation cheque worth RM 1 million by Prof. Sr Dr. Shaikh Ibrahim Shaikh Omar, Trustee of Yayasan Geomatika, to Universiti Geomatika Malaysia. This donation is set to significantly bolster the university’s initiatives in providing scholarships and enhancing the overall student experience. The moment was witnessed by esteemed guests, including Prof. Datin Nazirah Mohaizi and Prof. Datuk Mazrin Rohizaq Che Rose, Deputy President II of UGM.

In recognition of their unwavering support, Yayasan Geomatika presented certificates of appreciation to key donors. These philanthropists, through their contributions via wakalah, infaq, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, have been pivotal in supporting the foundation’s vision over the past three years. Donors such as Dr. Nurul Amirah and representatives from Endona Corporation were among those honored.

In continuation, several new students from the August 2024 intake received letters of support from Yayasan Geomatika. The students were acknowledged for their academic potential, and the foundation emphasized its commitment to nurturing future leaders. Additionally, certificates and tokens of appreciation were presented to athletes from UGM, who had recently achieved commendable success in the 2024 MASISWA sports events.

Special accolades were given to:

  • Chin Voon Song and Muhamad Afif Bin Jjuinin for securing third place in E-Sport Aerodance,
  • Izlan Hadi Bin Amran and Faiz Danial Bin Ruslan for their achievements in E-Sport (FIFA),
  • Dhia Qistina Binti Mohd Fauzi and Kirsseny A/P Kumar for excelling in chess,
  • Nur Hairulafiqa Binti Mohd Asri and Siti Robbani Nadira Binti Muhammad for their contributions in netball,
  • Guirassy Ahmed Salim and Hafiy Qusyairie Bin Nizam for their outstanding performance in futsal.

A key moment of the event was the launch of the Dana Geopreneur Generation, an innovative initiative aimed at fostering entrepreneurial spirit among UGM students. This fund provides a seed grant of RM 10,000 to support student business ideas that are competitive, innovative, and impactful on the community. Prof. Datin Nazirah Mohaizi officially launched the fund, with the first symbolic grant being handed over to representatives from the university’s Student Representative Council.

This initiative reflects Yayasan Geomatika’s dedication to empowering students beyond the classroom, encouraging them to develop sustainable business models that can have both local and global impact.

The ceremony concluded with a photography session to commemorate the occasion. The “Majlis Penyerahan Dana Biasiswa Aspirasi dan Penghargaan” successfully highlighted the collaborative efforts between Yayasan Geomatika, UGM, and its generous donors. The foundation’s contribution of RM 1 million to UGM and RM 10,000 to the Geopreneur Generation Fund are set to further enhance the university’s role in shaping future-ready graduates.
